Xeriscape LogoFree Xeriscape Classes!
Each spring, the City of Denton Water Utilities Department promotes water conservation by sponsoring free xeriscape classes! The classes are designed to teach Denton residents landscaping that conserves water and protects the environment. Selecting the correct plants is not enough. The classes will teach participants to apply good landscaping techniques and maintenance practices that will save them time, money, and water.

Does your lawn have a drinking problem? Learn how xeriscape can help! Bonnie Reese, an acclaimed North Texas landscape designer, will teach you to xeriscape. The goal of xeriscape is to create a landscape that uses water-efficient plants.

These classes are held in conjunction with the Denton Redbud Festival each year. 2012 classes will be held on Saturday, April 21. More details including class topics, times, and registration will be available in February.

The term xeriscape is derived from the Greek word xeros meaning dry, combined with landscaping. The Front Range Xeriscape Task Force of the Denver Water Department coined the term in 1981. The goal of xeriscape is to create a visually attractive landscape that uses plants selected for their water efficiency.
