Historic Landmark Commission

The Historic Landmark Commission is comprised of 9 members appointed by the City Council.  The duties and responsibilities of the Commission are outlined in 35.4.3 of the Denton Development Code.  The  Commission meets on the second Monday of the month in the City Council Work Session room at City Hall, 215 E. McKinney Street, Denton, Texas.

The City of Denton contains two (2) historic districts, the Oak/Hickory Historic District and the West Oak Historic District, and the Bell Avenue Conservation District.  Any exterior or hardscape modifications that are visible from the public right-of-way to structures located in any of these districts require a Certificate of Appropriateness.  The Historic Preservation Officer may administratively approve a Certificate of Appropriateness for work that is considered ordinary maintenance or minor alteration.  All other Certificates of Appropriateness will be processed and heard through a public hearing process with the Historic Landmark Commission.  For additional information, please refer to 35.7.6 of the Denton Development Code.
