Animal Services
Important Announcement! | Feb. 10
Due to an influx of owner and stray surrenders Denton Animal Services is unable to accept owner surrenders at this time. To help us lower the number of pets in the shelter, we are asking people to adopt or foster stray animals to give our shelter animals an opportunity to be adopted. We anticipate being more responsive to emergency surrender situations in the coming weeks, and we are working very diligently to be able to comfortably accommodate the needs of the animals in our care and the community.
We are in the process of acquiring assistance from other agencies and rescue groups to help find placement for our adoptable and special needs animals in order to create more space. However, many rescues in the area are full to capacity due to similar situations.
Denton Animal Services offers a “stray foster” program that we highly encourage residents to use, should they find a stray animal. This program allows the finders to keep the animal until either they themselves would like to adopt, or when there is available space in the shelter. While fostering the animal the resident is provided with all necessities such as; bowls, beds, food, litter, etc.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may present and we greatly appreciate your understanding and support.
Please bear with us.
On behalf of the staff, volunteers, and animals in our care.
Thank you.
