Denton Natatorium (NAT)
The Denton Natatorium (NAT) is an indoor aquatic center with competition and leisure pools, rentals and party packages, and swim lessons. It is located at 2400 Long Rd., off Sherman Drive near Loop 288. It's a joint-use facility between Denton Independent School District (DISD) and Denton Parks and Rec. DISD uses the facility for swim meets, practices, and water polo matches.
***ATTENTION - The Natatorium will have delayed openings on Saturday, September 23, 2023 and Saturday, September 30, 2023 due to DISD events. We will open to the public at 11 a.m. both days.

All-Access Aquatic Membership
One-year membership with access to the NAT, Water Works Park, and Civic Center Pool; nonresidents add $5 per pass. Pass perks for Water Works Park include: Souvenir cup with $1 refills, 2 Buddy Passes (50% admission), 10% off concessions/ gift shop purchases, and $10 off Cabana rentals M-Th.

Punch Passes
A punch pass is valid six months from the date of purchase and includes NAT admission and NAT water aerobics classes. One punch equals one visit; nonresidents add $5 per pass.

Summer Swim Lessons
Swim lessons are offered year-round at the NAT and during the summer at the NAT and Civic Center Pool for ages six months and older. Lessons for all skill levels are provided at each class during each session. The registration deadline for swim lessons is at closing on the Friday before the first day of class.

Levels & Descriptions
Our classes are designed to allow students to learn at their own pace and master the skills at each level before attempting the next challenge. If you have questions about which class best fits you or your child's needs, call (940) 349-8800.
Water Tots, ages 6 months to 3 years
Parent and child aquatics builds swimming readiness through games and songs. Parents learn how to teach their children various skills to increase their child's confidence, coordination, and safety in the water. Class ratio is 5:1.
Preschool, ages 3 to 4
This level is a fun introduction to water with an emphasis on comfort, safety, and basic water skills. Preschoolers learn floating, kicking, alternating arm action, bubble blowing, and safety rules. Class ratio is 5:1.
Level 1: Intro to Water, ages 5 and up
This level builds from beginner skills through the introduction of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke while providing a greater sense of confidence and independence in the water. Class ratio is 5:1.
Level 2: Fundamental Skills, ages 5 and up
This level builds from Level 1, and teaches alternating arm action, rhythmic bobbing, front and back glides, and safety. Prerequisites include the ability to walk five yards in chest-deep water, retrieve an object underwater, and float supported or unsupported. Class ratio is 5:1.
Level 3: Stroke Development, ages 6 and up
This level teaches rotary breathing, dolphin kick, and safety, as well as freestyle and elementary backstroke. Prerequisites include the ability to float (front and back) unsupported, perform front and back glides unsupported, and demonstrate alternating arm action. Class ratio is 5:1.
Level 4: Stroke Development, ages 6 and up
This level increases endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front and back crawl) for greater distances. Participants add arms to the scissors kick for sidestroke and begin learning back crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly. Class ratio is 5:1.
Adult Swim Lessons, 16 and up
This class is for adults who need to learn to swim or gain more confidence in the water. Students will increase distances they can swim. Students will practice all six swim strokes and practice flips. Class ratio is 5:1.
Private & Semi-Private Swim Lessons - Ages 3 to Adult
These lessons are designed to meet specific needs and provide individualized attention to enhance learning abilities.

Indoor Aquatic Exercise
These classes are designed for those who need to work out at a slightly slower pace with guided instruction. The Water Exercise class is held in the competition pool during the colder months and at the Civic Center Pool during the summer months. Strength training is free to members and is a land class.

Registration opens on April 3, 2023. You can register with staff at the Natatorium or online. There is a limit of 60 participants per class. Each class is set up in sessions.
You need a Denton Natatorium membership or Health Insurance membership (Silver Sneakers, Silver/Fit, Renew Active).

Programs & Activities
Island Divers Scuba Classes
Scuba classes are offered through Island Divers and taught using the PADI System, aka the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. PADI courses are designed to make learning enjoyable and worthwhile with instructors who are trained and held to diving's highest standards, backed up by a solid, proactive quality management system. Waterpark Lifeguarding Certification Course
This American Red Cross course certifies you in Lifeguard Training with Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and Bloodborne Pathogen Training. This is a blended learning course where seven hours of online work must be completed prior to the class dates, followed by students learning and demonstrating in-person skills during the scheduled class days. NOTE: Taking the Waterpark Lifeguarding Certification Course does not guarantee employment with City of Denton Aquatics.
Prerequisites being checked/conducted on the first class day are:
- Minimum age of 15
- Swim 300 yards continuously
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object, and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within one minute and 40 seconds
- Tread water for two minutes using only the legs.
Classes are Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Attendance for the entirety of all three days of the course is mandatory.

The Denton Area Swim Club is an adult program (16 years and over) designated for recreational, triathletes, and competitive swimmers. It is a USMS-registered Master's Swim team.
The practice times are 5:30-6:45 am (M/W/F).
