Overview

Since 1874, the Denton Fire Department has responded to fires and provided suppression in the Denton area. Today, the Denton Fire Department provides an all-hazards approach model that includes response to fires, emergency medical services (EMS), hazardous materials response, and technical rescues. Our dedicated team is focused on promoting and protecting the health and safety of the Denton community. Our success is shaped by a diverse team specializing in fire prevention, fire and life safety education, advanced training, emergency response, and disaster preparedness.

Message from Chief Kenneth Hedges

As Fire Chief of the City of Denton Fire Department, I have the honor and extreme privilege to serve beside some of the most dedicated fire professionals. The greatest compensation each member is afforded is to be identified as a Denton Fire Fighter. Each one of your Denton Fire Department members have sworn an oath to protect life and property, and they hold this responsibility with dedication and vigor. I am proud to be a part of such a diverse and talented team.

Since the founding of the Denton Fire Department, generations of firefighters have served this City. From a modest start in 1874, the DFD protected 1,000 residents. Today, the Denton Fire Department has the responsibility to protect nearly 142,000 residents in an almost 100 square mile response area.

The Denton Fire Department is comprised of 198 members that provide the citizens, students, and visitors of this community the highest level of emergency care and services. In addition to providing excellent emergency medical services and fire suppression, the Department also provides the following services:

  • Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting
  • Fire and Arson Investigation
