Community Tree Giveaway
The 25th Annual Community Tree Giveaway is Saturday, October 21, 2023.
The Community Tree Giveaway is an annual drive-thru event that provides free trees to Denton residents each October, and is Denton's largest and longest-running tree giveaway!

Registration
Registration is now closed.
- Limited to City of Denton residents; proof of residency required a pick-up
- Limit of one tree per household
- Must pick up on Oct. 21 - If you are unable to pick up your tree, please do not register.
- All participants must have an account with Parks and Recreation. Set up your account ahead of time at www.dentonparkscatalog.com.
Waiting List
- Registration has filled up, but there is still a chance to take home a tree. Registered waiting list participants may come at the end of the Tree Giveaway event to choose from the unclaimed trees.
- Registration is required to receive a tree from the waiting list.
- All registration requirements above still apply to the waiting list.
Next Steps
- After registration closes, staff will work to quickly review the participant list to remove any ineligible registrations.
- Once the list is finalized, an email notification will be sent to all registered participants with more information.
- All participants should receive a final confirmation email no later than October 15, 2023. If you have not received your email by this date, please email [email protected] or call (940) 349-8737.
- Prepare for the Tree Giveaway by doing the following:
- Mark your calendar: October 21, 2023 (8am-Noon) - Arrival times will be assigned.
- Locate your event ticket - you'll need this to check in for the event.
2023 Tree Species
Trees Are Terrific!
Planting new trees enhances Denton's urban canopy and helps our city thrive! Trees are vital for sustainable community growth, economic vitality, and public health.
Denton needs new trees to:
- Increase property values
- Boost consumer spending
- Encourage outdoor physical activity
- Beautify neighborhoods and public spaces
- Lower energy consumption of homes and businesses
A total of 700 trees are available, with six different species offered, all of which are drought-tolerant, and native or well-adapted for Denton soils and climate.
- Autumn Blaze Maple Acer x freemanii
- Cedar Elm Ulmus crassifolia Nutt.
- Mexican Plum Prunus mexicana
- Nellie R. Stevens Holly Ilex x 'Nellie R. Stevens'
- Texas Redbud Cercis canadensis var. texensis
- Shumard Oak Quercus shumardii
