Solar Panels / Wind Turbines

Solar Panel and Wind Turbine installation requires a permit from the City of Denton's Building Safety Department and the approval from your electric service provider.

Denton Municipal Electric Providers

If the electric provider is Denton Municipal Electric (DME), the Submittal Requirements must be submitted through eTRAKiT. Submittal requirements are as follows:

Note: All engineered plans must be designed in accordance with the City of Denton's current adopted codes (2021 IRC and 2020 NEC).

Inspections Required

  • Service Update Inspection (if required to upgrade service)
  • Finals for Release

NOTE: Licensed Electrician is required to be on site for all inspections

Fees

  • $150 or $200 if service update required

Non-DME Electrical Providers

If the electric provider is not DME, the Submittal Requirements are as follows: 

  • Completed and signed residential permit application (PDF)
  • Aerial view of panel location including fire access
  • Structural letter from engineer verifying the existing roof can support proposed solar panels*
  • One-line electrical diagram
  • Configuration of electrical equipment
  • Manufactured specifications for panels and all other equipment
  • Attachment details and manufactured specifications
  • Interconnection agreement from energy provider (This is on this page under the non-DME instructions at Solar Panels / Wind Turbines)
  • Photos of electric meter, breakers, and breaker panel
