Denton Small Business Profile
In economic development, we see small business owners in Denton hustling to make their business into something they can be proud of and share with their families. It's not just a way to express themselves or provide an income, but a way to contribute to the community they call home. In this new series, we hope to share some of the fantastic small businesses located here and help you get to know the entrepreneurs that make Denton a great place to belong.
To start this new Denton Small Business Profile series, we celebrate Black History Month by spotlighting black owned businesses in our community. We encourage you to make time to visit them and experience what makes Denton, well, Denton!
This week's profile is The Cookie Crave.
Veronica Powell is the owner of The Cookie Crave. If you have not heard of The Cookie Crave, it is a nut-free bakery that makes gourmet cookies in various flavors in both nut-free and gluten-free vegan collections.
Veronica selected Denton as home for The Cookie Crave because she loves the warmth and feel of the people in Denton. Also, because Denton has so many small local businesses – the support from the community for small businesses and the way small business owners help each other; she knew this was the place for her.
Veronica looks forward to each day at her business getting to meet new people, bringing a smile to someone's face after they enjoy one of her delicious cookies, and making someone happy because they finally found a bakery that is allergy-friendly and serves treats that they can enjoy.
What is one thing you should know about Veronica and her business? It's is this – The Cookie Crave cares about each and every customer and wants everyone to have a great experience when enjoying their cookies. They welcome feedback and suggestions from all of their customers and strive daily to make some of the best cookies, in the most unique flavors, for everyone to enjoy. The Cookie Crave is a black-owned, woman-owned business, of which the owner is accessible in the store daily thinking of new cookie flavors and sweet treats to make for the Denton community. How is The Cookie Crave celebrating Black History Month? They are offering 10% off all in-store orders.
We asked Veronica what advice she would share with other small business owners? "I would advise other small businesses to consider Denton because of its diversity, numerous small business owners, family-oriented close-knit feel, and the community support is amazing. I have worked in corporate for years and working for yourself is the hardest thing I have ever done. One key piece of advice is to find your "WHY." Your “Why” has to be strong and resonate with you. So that when challenges occur, and you want to quit, or your business is not going as planned, your "Why" will keep you going, keep you motivated and in the mindset that failure is not an option." We think Veronica’s advice is right on target.
Take a cookie break and visit Veronica!
