Denton Small Business Profile

In economic development, we see small business owners in Denton hustling to make their business into something they can be proud of and share with their families. It's not just a way to express themselves or provide for themselves, but a way to contribute to the community they call home. In this new series, we hope to share some of the fantastic small businesses located here and help you get to know the entrepreneurs that make Denton a great place to call home.

Continuing our new Denton Small Business Profile series, we celebrate Black History Month by highlighting Black-owned businesses in our community. We encourage you to make time to visit them and experience what makes Denton, well, Denton!

This week's profile is Trendsetters Beauty Supply.

Trendsetters Beauty Supply is a black-owned family-operated retail beauty supply business dedicated to serving the community. At Trendsetters, the business is boss, and customers are their number one priority. Providing world-class customer service while offering a wide selection of hair care products to meet customers' needs, expectations, and overall desires to help maximize one's personal beauty is their goal. They don't just want to make a sale but an impact, and when customers return or become regulars, they are doing just that.

Born and raised in Denton owners Robert Rice attended TWU, and his wife graduated from UNT; they feel that college students need to be embraced in our Denton community. They should be treated as family who are away from home adding, if my children went off to college, I'd hope this would be reflected in the community they chose. Trendsetters goes the extra mile to support students that visit their store by providing personalized support when shopping and through their social media. Seeing their customers smile as they come through the door is the best part of their day.

Trendsetters celebrates Black history every day by paying homage to those who made it possible. For Black History Month, they are providing more emphasis on black-owned products while educating their customers about the woman/man behind the product. Denton Juneteenth Celebration is also a special time for the Rice family, says Robert. "It's a time to reflect on how far we have come in this country. Although the past isn't so glamorous, the future seems to be a bit brighter. Juneteenth allows us to celebrate these accomplishments related to the African American community & culture. I'm also a proud committee member."

When asked what advice he would give to a company considering Denton as a new location, Mr. Rice replied that Denton is a great place to establish and grow your business. Both the local and college community welcome new businesses and go the extra mile to help promote and support them. Denton is a true goldmine!
