In economic development, we see small business owners in Denton hustling to make their business into something they can be proud of and share with their families. It's not just a way to express themselves or provide for themselves, but a way to contribute to the community they call home. In this new series, we hope to share some of the fantastic small businesses located here and help you get to know the entrepreneurs that make Denton a great place to call home.

To start this new Denton Small Business Profile series, we celebrate Black History Month by spotlighting black-owned businesses in our community. We encourage you to make time to visit them and experience what makes Denton, well, Denton!

This week's profile is Turning Heads Studio.

Tonya Kimbrough had been in the corporate world for over 20-years when she decided to make a move and follow her passion. Tonya opened Turning Heads Studio to be a business owner and share her love of cosmetology. As the owner of Turning Heads Studio, she is committed to building its platform on professionalism, courtesy, reliability, and dedication while forging relationships with guests.

The hair salon opened on McKinney Street in 2020, just across from where Tonya’s favorite event takes place in Quakertown Park – The Denton Arts & Jazz Festival. “I absolutely love Jazz!” says Tonya, “it’s one of the special events that adds to Denton’s small-town feeling and its close-knit community.”

Tonya looks forward to seeing each of her customers and providing exceptional salon services to fit their individual needs. If you are looking for an experienced licensed cosmetologist certified as an Extensions Cosmetologist: braidless, fusion, and micro links, Turning Heads Studio is for you. They are committed to staying at the forefront of excellent design and functionality through research and development. They love to innovate, are always ready to explore new technologies, and create new designs to keep their customers ahead of the pack. The Studio also provides spa services in addition to all its hair salon services.

Denton is a unique community with a vibrant culture where small businesses can bloom. As a woman black-owned business, Turning Heads Studio works daily to support other black-owned companies thrive. Tonya shared, owning this business is our dream, and as small business owners, we should never give up.
