DENTON, TX, Feb. 22, 2022 – After hours of negotiations with an armed barricaded subject, officers were able to bring 39-year-old Gabriel Temba into custody without incident.
At approximately 8:42 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, officers were dispatched to reports of a domestic disturbance in the 1000 block of Dallas Drive. The caller reported her husband was screaming at her, had strangled her, and was making both homicidal and suicidal statements. It was determined the suspect had multiple firearms inside of their apartment.
Officers arrived on scene and contacted the caller, who had escaped the residence. Her injuries from the strangulation were assessed, and she was provided medical attention.
Responding patrol officers, along with members of the Denton PD SWAT and Negotiator Teams, began negotiations with Temba. He threatened to shoot anyone who entered his property, so communication was tense, and it took hours to deescalate the subject.
Finally, at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Temba agreed to surrender himself and exited the apartment unarmed. He was taken into custody on a warrant for Assault Family Violence Impeding Breath, which was granted in relation to the earlier strangulation offense against his wife.
We are grateful for the professionalism and patience of our personnel who were able to bring this incident to a successful conclusion.
