Each year, we take an entire month to celebrate and recognize the importance and benefits of senior centers. September is known as National Senior Center Month and the best way to celebrate is to go to your local senior center and participate in at least one of the programs and activities that are planned regularly.
Active adult and senior centers provide a wide range of services and programs with physical, mental, and emotional well-being in mind. Exercise classes for any level of fitness and meal programs, technology help, fun special events, competitive gameplay, friends to visit with, and SO much more. The City of Denton Parks and Recreation Department has TWO senior centers, Denton Senior Center and American Legion Hall, that are full of exciting programs (and growing every day) for the community.
This years theme is Strengthening Community Connections through our Senior Centers! Denton Senior Center and American Legion Hall provide a variety of ways to strengthen community connections by connecting for healthy ages, all populations, economic security, and all generations.
Our Senior Centers provide essential healthy aging services to all active adults such as our wellness workshops and group exercise classes. We connect all populations by offering programs such as partnering with the Denton Black Film Festival and hosting Café Y Pan and A Taste of Hispanic Culture. We offer a variety of workshops on benefits, legal aid, and technology which helps strengthen our community connection for economic security. We are connecting all generations through our Grand Afternoon program, which allows grandparents with grandkids to visit the Senior Center and participate in activities such as games, crafts, and snacks!
All month long we will have special ways to get involved through activities, classes, and events. Be sure to check out our social media and website for additional information!
Stop by, we'd love to see you!
