For over three decades, Keep Denton Beautiful (KDB) has partnered with families, neighborhoods, businesses, and community groups all over Denton to achieve a vision of a clean and vibrant city. In 2020, KDB transitioned from a hybrid nonprofit 501c3 organization to a fully city-run initiative within the Parks and Recreation Department. City staff plan and implement more than 15 programs and events annually to support beautification efforts.
Using the Keep America Beautiful model of community engagement, KDB works directly with Dentonites to inspire positive change and provide residents the resources needed to leave a lasting mark in their community. KDB offers free trees annually through the Community Tree Giveaway and the Denton Redbud Festival, commissions murals to deter graffiti, and provides free litter cleanup supplies to volunteers.
We’ve highlighted some of KDB’s most popular programs and events:
- The Community Tree Giveaway – Held each October, the Tree Giveaway provides an average of 700 3-gallon trees to Denton residents through a one-day drive-thru event.
- Great American Cleanup – Denton’s largest and longest-running citywide litter cleanup effort takes place each March. More than 2,000 volunteers join our efforts to remove an average of four tons of litter from our streets, parks, and waterways. The event is capped off with a celebratory volunteer party at Quakertown Park that includes free lunch and entertainment.
- Denton Redbud Festival – In honor of Denton’s official tree, the Texas Redbud, KDB hosts its annual Earth Day festival featuring environmental vendors, live music, educational workshops, food and more. This event takes place at the Denton Civic Center and Quakertown Park.
- Meetup Cleanup Program – In an effort to keep our community clean and litter-free all year, KDB provides free supplies for volunteers including trash bags, disposable gloves, litter tongs, sunscreen, bug repellant, and safety vests. To participate, register online to receive a cleanup location. Free supplies are available Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Denton Civic Center, 321 E. McKinney St., Denton, 76201.
