Healthy Holidays

The holidays can be a fun and festive time, but it comes with its own stresses and challenges; this is especially true when it comes to our health! Here are some helpful tips from the staff at the Denton Senior Center on how to make it through this holiday season!

 Tip 1: Wash your hands!

This may seem silly, but washing your hands is one of the best ways to stay healthy during the busy holiday season. With family traveling, frequent trips to the grocery store, and holiday parties your body will be exposed to a whole new level of foreign bacteria. The CDC recommends washing hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water!

Tip 2: Bundle up!
We joke about how Texans can’t handle the cold but staying warm and dry can do a lot for your health! And if you have lost your favorite pair of mittens or hat, you can always join the Needlework group on Tuesdays to knit or crochet yourself a new one!

Tip 3: Manage stress

Managing stress is more than just deep breathing (though if you would like to have some guided breathing, the Denton Senior Center has Yoga and Tai Chi). Managing stress can be taking some personal time: doing a puzzle, chatting with friends, or working off your stress in an exercise class. Good news! The Denton Senior Center has all of those!

Hopefully you find some of our tips helpful this holiday season! Whether it be companionship or just getting away from your family for an hour. Your Parks and Rec family is here for fun, fellowship, and a good workout!
