DENTON, TX, Jan. 12, 2023 — A homicide investigation is ongoing after a male gunshot victim was pronounced deceased at a local hospital late last night.
At 10:18 p.m. Wednesday night, Jan. 11, officers were dispatched to a shots heard call at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Eagle Drive. The caller reported hearing what sounded like multiple gunshots.
Officers searched the area and located an apartment door that was slightly ajar. Officers called out to any potential occupants and heard someone inside asking for help. They then entered the apartment and located a male victim who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The officers began life-saving measures and requested a response from Denton Fire Department EMS.
The male was conscious and speaking when officers first contacted him but was no longer speaking when DFD arrived to transport him to a local hospital. The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 11:57 p.m., and was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 43-year-old Cory Johnson. His death has been ruled a homicide.
