This week kicked off with contractors on site to finish details on the WWP bathhouse floors where another clear coat was applied and polishing took place. Facilities will be on-site in the next week to begin painting the walls. Repairs to the benches will wrap up the majority of the refresh in this area later this winter.
Contractors are on-site working on the Lazy River vaults. We are renovating 3 of the 4 booster pump stations that live in sub-surface vaults that control the “flow” of the river current. Safety concerns existed with these confined space chambers that housed mechanical and electrical equipment that has seen the end of their lifecycle. New engineering of these stations will see new equipment lifted to the surface with enclosed chambers built around them so staff can access them for safer and easier maintenance tasks. The 4th vault is proposed for renovation during the winter of ’23-’24.
The Wave Pool at Water Works opened in July 2017. This week, contractors began repairs to the large beach area leading into the rocking waves. Minor cracking in the concrete from settling was repaired, while the beach also got some TLC to the texture and paint. The wave pool will be temporarily drained while similar repairs are made to the plaster and walls. Fun Fact! Did you know our plaster needs to remain wet to keep its current shape? (If it dries out, it can shrink which will cause more cracking.) Don’t mind us if you see a sprinkler or two watering our empty pool while repairs are going on. 😉
Work continues on the Kiddie Pool at Water Works as contractors move forward with the chipping and new grading of the pool as they fix sloping issues. New grates will be installed along with a tile band during this update. Painting and repairs to play features inside the Kiddie Pool were completed in December 2022.
The Civic Center Pool has staff on site this week to address seeping issues at the water stop line. Additional patching to cracked and uneven concrete decking will kick off as we move closer to Spring.
New furniture and cabanas for Water Works will be received this month to help replace inventory and increase seating options.
