The saying April Showers bring May flowers in generally the case but for the state flower of Texas the ideal window begins a litter earlier.  Mid-March to Early April is the beginning of the blooming season for the beautiful bluebonnet.  The state flow is a icon across the state and a great opportunity for folks around Texas to enjoy the beauty of the state.   

The History behind the Texas bluebonnet and the prominence it has across the state goes back to the early 1900s.  In 1901 the Texas State Legislature adopted the bluebonnet as the states flow and shortly after in the 1930 the Texas Highway Department began a beautification initiative that would spread the Bluebonnet all across the state.  Of the five species of Bluebonnets, two are native to the state and are most prominent in the North Texas region.   

Bluebonnets are synonymous around the state of Texas with family photos and opportunities to enjoy the beautiful Texas wildlife.  Either through a hike along a trail or a walk around an area park, the Bluebonnet stands out among the native Texas plants and wildlife.  

Those looking to enjoy the beauty and excellence of the native flower don’t have to go far.  The Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center in Denton is one of the top spots in the North Texas area for Bluebonnets and a great opportunity for residents to hike through the Texas wetlands.  Other areas include the Warren Parks Freedom Meadow in Frisco and the Plano Bluebonnet trail.  

 If you're out on a hike, be sure to take some time to enjoy the beauty of the Texas wildflowers the native wildlife.
