Meet Vivian C. Young, who is a volunteer at MLK Jr. Rec Center and on the Martin L. King, Jr. Advisory Board, Chair!
Vivian has been volunteering at the MLK Jr. Rec. Center since 2013. Her favorite thing about volunteering is coming together with others to make a difference in the community. She also loves the fact that she meets people and learns new things.
Vivian's fondest memory at the MLK Jr. Rec. Center is MLK Day helping serve food in the cafeteria with her sorority. Her sorority decorated and provided door prizes. Every year the community becomes more excited about the door prize giveaways and stays until the last prize is given. Serving the people in the community helps us build relationships and some people actually look forward to the yearly smiles, laughs, and conversations. Vivian stated that all of the events at the MLK Jr Rec Center are great; however, this is her favorite event.
Every organization of which Vivian is a part gives back in some aspect. Whether it’s collecting food, and clothing, educating youth, or providing scholarships. The goal is to strive to make a difference. The best advice she can give about volunteering is it provides character growth and you meet people and make long-lasting relationships. It’s a humbling experience to give back and help make your community the best it can be. We all want things to be better, so we have to do our part to make it better.
Personally, Vivian is from Ruston, Louisiana. She received her BA from Dallas Baptist University and MS from Amberton University. Vivian is married to Delwin Young and they have a son, Cameron. They are affiliated with One Community Church in Plano, TX.
One of her favorite quotes by Martin Luther King Jr. “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?”
