You may have seen the StoryWalk© featured among businesses on the Denton Square and we are proud to announce a second location coming soon to Fred Moore Park located at 501 S. Bradshaw Street. This is a project created in collaboration between Denton Public Library and the City of Denton Parks and Recreation Department.
A StoryWalk© is a fun way for children and families to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated picture book pages are inserted into signposts which are then installed along a walking path. As you stroll down the path, you are directed to the next page in the story. StoryWalks® have been installed in 50 states and 13 countries including, Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea! Denton’s first StoryWalk© has been up in the windows of the Denton Square businesses since late 2021 and we are excited to bring one to the Fred Moore Park neighborhood.
This project is funded by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act. Denton Public Library applied for and was awarded funding under TSLAC’s Texas Reads category. The agency’s Texas Reads Grant program supports projects that promote reading and literacy within local communities.
Our StoryWalk© in the park will rotate five different stories during its first year. Stories will center around important social and life events such as Juneteenth, the first day of school, family, and perseverance. Be sure to stop by the park and check out our StoryWalk© soon!
