DENTON, TX, July 5, 2023 – Travis Rollins, 39, is facing two Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charges following a shooting that left a 10-year-old boy in critical condition.
At 7:42 p.m. Tuesday, multiple callers reported hearing several gunshots at a mobile home park in the 3900 block of Teasley Lane. Callers then stated that a child had been shot. Denton Fire medics transported the boy to a local hospital while Denton Police investigated the shooting.
Detectives determined that the boy and his mother were standing outside a residence when Rollins arrived in a pickup truck. He exited the vehicle and shot in the direction of both victims. Rollins walked up to the home, fired additional gunshots, then returned to his vehicle and drove away.
During the gunfire, the boy was struck multiple times. The mother was not injured. Nearby residences were also struck by bullets, with no additional injuries reported.
The boy’s mother identified Rollins, her ex-boyfriend, as the suspect. Around 9:30 p.m., the Duncanville Police Department located Rollins in their city and arrested him on an unrelated Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon warrant out of Ellis County.
Rollins, a Midlothian resident, is currently in the City of Denton Jail with bail set at $1.1 million: $500,000 for each Denton charge, and $100,000 for the Ellis County warrant.
The boy was flown Tuesday night to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The shooting investigation is ongoing.
