[ARCHIVED] City of Denton is Updating Rebate Program

DME Update

DENTON, TX, Sep. 27, 2023 – The City of Denton is updating rebates available to Denton Municipal Electric (DME) customers. Beginning Oct. 1, rebates for new solar installations will be discontinued and the funding for that program will be shifted to the GreenSense Incentive Program to further promote household energy efficiency upgrades. At this time, there are no changes to DME’s net metering program.

This change reflects the overall decline in the cost of rooftop solar installation and increases to the costs for energy efficiency upgrades. Redirecting these funds makes a total of $1,000,000 available through the GreenSense Incentive Program for home efficiency upgrades  such as smart thermostats, HVAC replacement, duct repairs, radiant barriers, attic insulation, windows and solar screens, weatherization materials and electric vehicles. An HVAC tune-up rebate is new to the program this year.  Projects like this improve the efficiency of the home and reduce energy usage.

As shown below, these efficiency programs have a higher impact per dollar spent on both energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
