Denton, TX, Oct. 9, 2023 - Following a national search, City Manager Sara Hensley is pleased to announce the selection of Dustin Sternbeck as the City of Denton’s first Chief Communications Officer. In this role, Mr. Sternbeck will be responsible for the development and execution of all internal and external communication strategies, drive impactful stakeholder engagement, and advance the Denton brand. He will lead the City’s Marketing and Communications team.
“Our workforce is laser focused on delivering first-class services to each of Denton’s vibrant communities, and a key ingredient is employing passionate public servants,” says City Manager Sara Hensley. “Dustin’s experience and unwavering commitment to this goal will help advance city communications with all residents and visitors, now and in the future.”
Sternbeck is a seasoned communications professional with close to two decades of local government experience. He most recently served on the executive staff with the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, DC as their Communications Director. Additionally, he held a communications consultant role on the International Association of Chiefs of Police Mass Violence Advisory Initiative and chaired the Major Cities Chiefs Association Public Information Committee. His prior experience also includes communications-related leadership positions in higher education and fire, rescue and emergency management.

Sternbeck earned his masters degree in Public Administration from George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government and holds a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from West Virginia University.
