Two Arrests Made in Connection to Sunday’s Fatal Shooting

DENTON, TX, Oct. 19, 2023 – Denton PD detectives have arrested two individuals in connection to a fatal shooting that took place Sunday morning. 

On Oct. 15, at 2:37 a.m., officers were dispatched to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of Fred Moore High School in the 800 block of Cross Timber Street. Officers responded and located two adults who had sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both were transported to local hospitals. One of the gunshot victims was pronounced deceased at the hospital and has been identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 30-year-old Edron Slaughter. The other, a 26-year-old male, was hospitalized in critical condition. 

During the course of the investigation, detectives determined multiple individuals were involved in the events leading up to the shooting. Following a verbal altercation, it is believed the 26-year-old male presented a firearm and shot Slaughter. Evidence gathered at the scene points to at least two additional shooters firing weapons during this incidentTwo suspected shooters have been identified as 22-year-old Daviune Hardy and 38-year-old Robert Coffey. Hardy and Coffey are both believed to have shot the 26-year-old, causing life-threatening injuries.  

On Wednesday, Oct. 18, a local judge issued two arrest warrants for Hardy and Coffey for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Both have been located and taken into custody as of Thursday evening, Oct. 19.  

At this time, it is believed there are additional subjects who may have fired weapons during this shooting and detectives continue to investigate this possibility. The 26-year-old who allegedly shot and killed Slaughter remains hospitalized in critical condition.
