Plastic film such as grocery bags are known to be the number one contaminant in recycling programs. Many consumers place plastic film in their recycling bin not knowing that it may cause more harm than good. Denton Parks and Recreation is teaming up with NexTrex® a company that is dedicated to recycling plastic bags and thin film. NexTrex® recycles donated thin plastics and converts them into eco-friendly outdoor products.
Our goal is to collect 500 pounds or more of thin plastic film to secure a FREE high-performance composite bench for a Denton park. This recycling will be taken to a participating retailer and then taken to a special facility that utilizes proper equipment to recycle plastic film waste. If you are interested in volunteering to help transport the bags, please contact Carly Weld, [email protected].
There will be three Denton Parks and Recreation locations to drop-off your plastic bags and thin film. Items that can be donated include bags - grocery, produce, food storage, etc., case overwrap, bubble wrap, and plastic wrap. The challenge will be held through May 17, 2022.
