1. What is being inspected?

We are inspecting the overhead utility service line from the transformer to the weather head, the connections at the weather head, the electric meter box, and the electric meter itself.

2. When are you inspecting the meter?

The meter will be inspected on the next business day between 7 a.m. and noon.

3. My meter is on the side of my house. Why did I get this notice?

Due to the high volume of meters in certain neighborhoods that are in the backyards or have fencing that comes up the side of the house, we leave door hangers on every house in that neighborhood.

4. How long will it take?

The inspections usually take between 5 to 10 minutes.

5. How is my meter being read?

The electric meters are equipped with a radio module that sends the reading over the Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI) System on a daily basis.

6. Do I have to be home for the inspection?

It is not necessary for you to be home as long as we have access to the meter.

7. Do you need to come inside my house for anything?

No, there is no need for a city employee to enter your house for any type of meter inspection.

8. I have a lock the city supplied on my gate, do I need to remove it?

No, if there is a city-supplied lock on the gate, the AMI Meter Inspector has a key to the lock.
