Building Permits

Building Inspections monitors compliance with the City of Denton building codes, ordinances and amendments. The division is responsible for issuing building permits, reviewing plans and performing inspections on all aspects of the building process to verify compliance with building codes. These codes are designed specifically to ensure the safety of the structure.


Apply For a Permit
 

All new commercial, residential, and irrigation permits must be submitted online. eTRAKiT allows the public to request inspections, apply for permits, obtain application status and pay fee's online. ProjectDox is our Electronic Plan Review, or ePlan system. ProjectDox allows applicants to submit plans for your permit electronically. For instructions on how to use ProjectDox, Including how to name your files, please see our ProjectDox guide.

For first time applicants, once you have applied in eTRAKiT, your email invitation will include a temporary password for login. If your invitation does not include this, please call (940) 349-8360. You will be prompted to change your password once you have logged in.

Schedule an Inspection
 

Inspection requests by the contractor must be done online through eTRAKiT. Homeowners however, may schedule inspections by calling (940) 349-8360. If you are wishing to cancel an inspection, call (940) 349-8360. Do not leave messages canceling your inspection request as they may not be received in time and may result in a fee.

Contractor Registration

All Contractors must register with the City of Denton. For a complete list of fees and requirements, download the Contractor Registration Application. Contractors are required to reregister yearly, this date coincides with the date on their license/master license. For General Contractors and Sign Contractors, expiration is one year from the date or registration.

First time registration must be done in person. If the license holder is unable to come in person, a notarized letter is required – stating why the license holder is unable to come in and who is authorized to register on his or her behalf; in addition to all listed requirements. This may be done in person or by emailing Building@cityofdenton.com

  • Who can schedule inspections?
    Contractors are required to schedule their inspections online through eTRAKiT, this may also be done by visiting the office. Homeowners may schedule inspections by calling the office at (940) 349-8360.
  • When does my permit expire?
    Permits expire 180 days after issuance. When an inspection occurs the permit will renew for an additional 180 days.
  • Do I need a permit to replace my fence?
    Any time new posts are being installed/replaced – a permit will be required. Minor repairs, such as the replacement of a few pickets, do not require a permit.
