Deputy Chief Rachel Fleming joined the Denton Police Department as a police officer in 1998. Her career started as a patrol officer where she served for four and a half years. In 2002, Deputy Chief Fleming was chosen to act as the Community Relations Officer for the southern half of Denton for two years. In late 2004, she joined the Criminal Investigations Division, where she served for 12 years investigating financial and narcotics offenses.
Deputy Chief Fleming promoted to Sergeant in 2016, leading a night shift patrol unit for two years. She also operated as the Special Events Coordinator, School Resource Officer (SRO) Sergeant, and Family Services Sergeant before being promoted to Lieutenant in 2019. Upon promotion to Lieutenant, Deputy Chief Fleming supervised the jail, SROs, fleet, Warrants Office, and technology in addition to standing up the quartermaster program.
She was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2021 and is commanding the North Operations (Patrol) and Downtown Divisions. Deputy Chief Fleming has been active in the department’s self-defense program for citizens since 2007 as well as being a certified instructor in the Basic Peace Officer Academy.
