City staff from the Parks and Recreation Department and members of the Public Art Committee will host the virtual meeting to provide updates and receive input on the following public art installation projects:

“Foundations of Our History” Mural
The Public Art Committee and Keep Denton Beautiful partnered with local artist Dan Black to repaint “Foundations of Our History,” a fence mural previously displayed on Bonnie Brae Street. The proposed location to repaint the mural is on the Union Pacific Railroad underpass located at the intersection of Bell Avenue and Robertson Street. The commissioned artwork honors women who have made significant contributions to the Denton community. Click here to see the rendering.

“Bench People” Interactive Sculptures
The Public Art Committee partnered with artist Madeline Wiener to create interactive bench-style sculptures to display on the northeast corner of the MLK Jr. Recreation Center property. The styrofoam maquette renderings represent the proposed design based on input obtained through a community survey to reflect the history, culture, values, and diversity of the Southeast Denton community.
