This Year’s Small Business Campaign: Shift Your Shopping to Local

Since 2013, the Shop Here On Purpose (SHOP) Denton program managed by Economic Development, has coordinated a Small Business Saturday Selfie Event with the Denton Main Street Association, Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, and Denton Chamber of Commerce, to stimulate economic growth locally for small merchants. Each year the event has grown to include more businesses and shoppers. Feedback from merchants after last year’s event is that an event requiring less of their time would be better.

This year’s campaign will be Nov. 1 to Dec. 31 and focuses on why shopping local is important. Using social media, we will share information about local-small businesses, share fun shopping opportunities, and promote a positive message about the importance of shopping locally. City staff has provided marketing tools here for small businesses to use. Our goal is to encourage people to make a shift in their shopping habits to shop local. By extending the campaign to a two month time period instead of focusing on one intense shopping day, such as black Friday or Shop Small Saturday, we hope to make a larger impact.

Information is available at www.ShopDentonTexas.com, Facebook @ShopDentonTexas, and Instagram #ShopDentonTexas.

We invite all businesses to share our posts on social media!
