Permits & Licenses

Building Safety monitors compliance with the City of Denton’s building codes, ordinances and amendments. The division is responsible for issuing permits and licenses, reviewing plans and performing inspections on all aspects of the building process to verify compliance with building codes. These codes are designed specifically to ensure the safety of the structure.

In response to the rise of local COVID-19 cases, the City of Denton Development Services Department has modified the extent to which facilities are open to the public. Whenever possible, staff will be encouraged to conduct meetings with members of the public and development community virtually. In-person deliveries and meetings with City staff will be limited to an appointment only basis. To request an in-person appointment, please email Building@cityofdenton.com or call (940) 349-8360. Please note that appointment hours may be revised based on the volume of requests received.

Please check this webpage regularly, information will be updated as the situation develops.

Semi-Public Pools May Open at 50% Capacity
Under Governor Abbott’s Executive Order, semi-public pools (including those at apartment complexes or operated by a home/property owners’ association) were able to re-open as of Friday, May 8, 2020. Under the current Executive Order, semi-public pools must operate at 50% of the total posted pool occupancy. Public pools operated by the City of Denton remain closed at this time.

A good rule of thumb for calculating a pool’s occupancy is 1 person per 50 square feet of pool area plus 1 person per 15 square feet of deck area. For any questions related to pool occupancy limits, contact Development Services at (940) 349-8360.

Building Saftey Summer Hours

The Building Safety summer inspection schedule will be in effect July 15-September 30, 2020. If you have questions or concerns regarding the revised inspection schedule, please call (940) 349-8360.
