Project Status

Currently, crews are completing street and sidewalk asphalt paving as the final phase of construction. All underground drainage system improvements have been completed, including the installation of a French drain on Eagle Drive.

Project Background

The Eagle Drive Drainage Project Phase 2 includes constructing an underground drainage system that will replace the open channel to help reduce flooding south of downtown (once all phases of this project are completed). As part of the project, the City is reconstructing Eagle Drive (Carroll to Elm), which is why part of the roadway is currently closed. Construction on this project will continue this year, with a planned completion date of August 2019.

Project Updates

July 18: Final improvements on Myrtle Street are now complete and the street is reopened to traffic. Crews will be removing signage, barricades, and addressing clean items as the project nears it's planned completion date.
July 10: Eagle Drive from Elm Street to Carroll Street is now open to traffic. Improvements include a new driving surface and underground drainage system, including the installation of a French drain on Eagle Drive. When storms and heavy rain events occur, the new drainage system will improve flooding in the area. Final improvements are being made on Myrtle Street and are expected to be complete in the coming weeks. Learn more about the improvements in this short video with the City's Deputy Engineer.

June 5: Due to weather delays, and groundwater issues uncovered during the underground phase of construction, the project completion date has been updated to August 2019.

Jagoe, a contractor for the City of Denton, has substantially completed all underground drainage improvements, including the installation of a French drain on Eagle Drive. Street pavement structure, sidewalk pavement, and cleanup are the remaining projects in the final scope of construction.
