DENTON, TX, May 24, 2019 – The Denton Police Department, in conjunction with Texas Woman’s University Department of Public Safety and University of North Texas Police Department, is implementing a city-wide Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) No Refusal period for the Memorial Day Holiday.
During the 2018 calendar year, there were 13 fatal crashes in the City of Denton, and approximately 76 percent of those involved alcohol or drug use by one or more drivers. From October 2018 to April 2019, there have been 83 DWI-related crashes in the City of Denton.
Denton Police hopes that by implementing this No Refusal timeframe we will see a reduction in DWI-related crashes and ensure all residents and visitors in the City of Denton make it to their destination safely.
The No Refusal period will run from 6 p.m. on Friday, May 24 until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28. During this time frame, those suspected of Driving While Intoxicated who refuse to voluntarily submit to a blood or breath test will be subject to an expedited court-ordered blood draw.
