Denton PD Seizes Large Quantity of Methamphetamine

DENTON, TX, July 15, 2019 – Two men have been arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1, Over 400 Grams) following the seizure of 38.4 pounds of methamphetamine. The call originated Saturday, July 13 at approximately 9:15 p.m. when Denton Public Safety Dispatch received a call for a welfare concern on I-35 near Bonnie Brae St. Callers reported a crashed vehicle and a man walking on the highway near the crash site.

Officers arrived on scene and located an unoccupied, wrecked vehicle and a package of methamphetamine on the ground next to the vehicle. The package was later determined to weigh 451 grams. Officers then located one male suspect, who ran when they attempted to make verbal contact. During the foot pursuit, the suspect stopped, turned, wielded a knife, and advanced on a sergeant. The suspect refused to comply with the sergeant’s requests and was then tased. The suspect then became compliant and was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1, Over 400 Grams), Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant, Evading Arrest, and Obstructing the Highway.
The vehicle was then towed to the Denton Police Department while officers applied for a search warrant. Following the execution of the search warrant, an additional 37.4 pounds of methamphetamine was located in the vehicle.
Officers made the second arrest in the case following a call from an area hospital relating to a disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and initially placed the suspect under arrest for Public Intoxication. Through the investigation, officers determined the suspect had been involved in the previously mentioned crash and left the scene. He was additionally charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1, Over 400 Grams).
