DENTON, TX, June 14, 2019 – On Thursday, June 13 at approximately 1:48 p.m. Denton Public Safety Dispatch received a call for a medical emergency in the 2500 Block of I-35. The child’s mother stated the child had fallen and hit their head. Denton Fire/Rescue was dispatched to the scene and transported the child to a local hospital for an apparent head injury. Due to the extent of the child’s injuries, the child was then transported by helicopter to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Medical staff determined the child’s injuries were inconsistent with a fall and notified Child Protective Services. Denton Police were then notified and responded to both the hospital and the residence to conduct an investigation. Medical staff informed investigators that the child had sustained a skull fracture and brain hemorrhage and also had evidence of previous head injuries.
Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for the child’s mother for Injury to a Child. She was arrested and transported to the Denton City Jail without incident. Her bond was set at $500,000.
The investigation is ongoing.
