Proposed 2019 Bond Program

The City of Denton is developing a bond program proposal to include funds for streets and public safety facilities. A Special Citizen Bond Advisory Committee (CBAC) will make recommendations to the City Council on projects to include in a possible bond program, as well as how much money should be allocated to each project and the overall program.

Proposed Projects

  • Streets
    Streets projects will address the City of Denton's greatest existing roadway infrastructure deficiencies based on: 
    • Current Capacity
    • Congestion
    • Safety
    • Future Capacity Needs

    Among other projects, the CBAC will consider the construction or reconstruction of Ryan Road from Teasley Lane to Country Club Road, Hickory Creek Road from FM 2499 to I-35W, Robinson Road from FM 2499 to Teasley Lane, Jim Christal Road from I-35 to Western Boulevard, Bonnie Brae Street from Scripture Street to Loop 288 (Phase V, VI, and VII), and Sherman Drive from Loop 288 to the Clear Creek Bridge crossing in their recommended capital projects for Council consideration.
  • Public Safety Facilities
    Enhancements to public safety facilities will also be considered for a proposed 2019 bond proposition. These projects may include new facilities, renovations of current facilities, and other public safety enhancements.

    Projects will address public safety service needs across the city, and particularly in fast-growing areas of Denton.
  • Additional Projects for Consideration
    The CBAC will also consider the following infrastructure needs when making their recommendation to the City Council:

    Local Street Rehabilitation
    The repair and rehabilitation of City street segments that improve overall street condition, address safety needs, or relieve congestion.

    Street Lighting 
    The installation of upgraded lighting among roadways that to address the City's highest identified lighting priorities. Example priority streets may include street segments on FM 2499, FM 2181, University Drive, Fry Street, Mulberry at Avenue A, and others.

    The installation or repair of sidewalks to address the City's highest identified sidewalk, walkway, and mobility priorities. 

    Open Space 
    The purchase of land for park and open space needs. Staff has created a master list of potential property prioritized and scored on factors such as tree canopy, unique land features, connections to trails, accessibility via 10-minute walk, and more.

    Public Art
    The installation of public art in accordance with the City of Denton Public Art Policy.

Citizen Bond Advisory CommitTee

The Special Citizen Bond Advisory Committee (CBAC) is charged with making recommendations to the City Council about projects to include in a bond program, as well as how much money should be allocated to each project and the overall program.

The committee will meet regularly from late May through July to discuss potential projects before issuing a final report to the City Council.
