Project Status:

Currently, Atmos Gas is working in the area between Avenue B and Welch. If Atmos completes the installation of their new lines as scheduled, the Streets Department will complete this portion of the project by the end of March. Construction on the last phase of the project (Welch to Carroll) is expected to begin in July.

Project Background

The reconstruction of Hickory Street (Bonnie Brae to Carroll) is expected to be complete by fall 2019. The project includes upgrading the roadway, water, wastewater, gas, and electric utilities in the area, which will result in a corridor that will last for the next 40 years.

Project Updates

March 7: The Streets Department recently completed Phase III of the project from Avenue C to Avenue B. Completed improvements to date include:
  • Sewer and utility improvements from Bonnie Brae Street to N. Carroll Boulevard
  • Full street reconstruction from Bonnie Brae Street to Avenue B. Due to the deteriorating condition of the the street, improvements have been made to stabilize the subgrade and new asphalt has been paved.
  • Curb and gutter repairs. Crews removed failed sections of the curb and installed new concrete.
As crews continue to complete the improvements, please use caution when traveling in the area and expect potential delays.

A public meeting is scheduled for the Hickory Street project to update residents and property owners on the past, current, and future phases of this project. Staff will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. For more information, view the public information notice here.
