Improvements are being completed for Phase II of this multi-phase project. Crews are installing 10,000 linear feet of 36-inch and 42-inch water main along Bonnie Brae Street from Highland Park Street to Willowwood Street. To allow crews to safely complete the construction, Bonnie Brae Street from Highland Park Street to Willowwood Street is temporarily closed to thru traffic.
To accommodate growth, increase capacity, and improve water services, Phase II includes the installation of 10,000 linear feet of 36-inch and 42-inch water mains along Bonnie Brae from Roselawn Drive to I-35E, which is currently under construction and is expected to be complete by late October 2019. Phase III includes the installation of 4,900 linear feet of 42-inch main along Bonnie Brae Street from I-35E to Scripture Street, construction is expected to begin January 2020.
S. Bonnie Brae Street from Highland Park Road to Willowwood Street is now reopened to traffic. The temporary closure allowed crews to safely install a casing pipe across the railroad right-of-way for a 42" diameter water main that helps increase our water system's capacity and reliability to our residents south of I-35. The new water main extends along Bonnie Brae Street from Roselawn Drive to I-35. As construction continues in the area, Bonnie Brae Street from Roselawn Drive to Corbin Road will remain temporarily closed to thru traffic (see detour map here
). There will be additional road closures associated with this project, however they are expected to be of shorter durations. Motorists are reminded to use caution and adhere to all posted traffic control and speed limits signage.
The North South Water Main Phase II project is on-track to be completed in early summer 2020.
Crews are actively working extended work hours and on Saturdays to complete the water main installation and street repairs to reopen Bonnie Brae Street as quickly and safely as possible.
Weather permitting, the street closure on Bonnie Brae Street from Roselawn Drive to Corbin Road is scheduled to reopen to thru traffic on or before Friday, November 8. In addition, the railroad bore on Bonnie Brae Street from Willowwood Street to Highland Park Road is now approximately 85% complete, and on-track to be reopened on or before Thursday, November 14. September 13: Bonnie Brae Street from Highland Park Street to Willowwood Street is temporarily closed. This closure will allow City contractor crews to safely install the new water main below and across the railroad tracks in the area. The project timeline has been impacted due to several unforeseen conflicts, including:
- Initial delivery of incorrect excavation equipment,
- Initial delivery of damaged materials, and
- Weather delays
The City has worked with the contractor to correct the equipment and material conflicts. At this time, new materials have been manufactured and delivered to the project site with the proper equipment. The closure of Bonnie Brae Street from Highland Park Street to Willowwood Street is now updated to reopen to traffic Sunday, October 13. The current detour route
is still in place and motorists are encouraged use caution when traveling in the area.
