Street repairs, microsealing, and restriping improvements planned for downtown near the Square this week.
As part of the implementation of the Solid Waste & Recycling Downtown Valet Service, street repairs, microsurfacing, and restriping is scheduled to begin downtown near the Square this week. The Streets Department will be microsurfacing the streets prior to restriping. Microsurfacing, also called microseal, is a seal coat that uses a mixture of water, asphalt, small rocks, and chemicals to protect the pavement and also create a new driving surface. In preparation for the microsurfacing, minor street repairs are planned to begin Monday, September 30th. There will be partial lane closures beginning Monday, September 30th until Wednesday, October 9 on Pecan Street, Austin Street, Mulberry Street, Cedar Street, and Industrial Street.
Following the street repairs, weather permitting, Monday, October 21, the microsurfacing contractor will begin on Pecan Street, Austin Street, Mulberry Street, Cedar Street, and Industrial Street. The schedule may be altered depending on weather, equipment, and unforeseen circumstances. There is also the possibility that work could take less time than expected and treatments may be completed earlier than anticipated.
There will be no parking allowed on the street and vehicles parked on the street will be towed to the nearest side street. Flaggers will maybe on site to direct traffic in the area. Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes when possible. City staff will work with the business owners in the area to minimize the impact during this time.
