Currently, TxDOT crews are completing final paving and striping that may require temporary intermittent lane closures.
To accommodate mobility needs, I-35E is being expanded. When construction is complete, motorists will enjoy expanded lane capacity on I-35E and much improved mobility through the Loop 288/Lillian Miller, Brinker Road, and Mayhill Road underpasses. Visit keepitmovingdallas.com for additional information.
February 11: Weather permitting, TxDOT crews are scheduled to begin and complete final striping and signing at the Loop 288 underpass next week. Once these final improvements are complete the underpass is planned to open to traffic the following week.
January 6: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has opened all northbound main lanes on I-35E. The southbound I-35E entrance ramp from US-77/Dallas Drive is also now open. With all northbound and southbound I-35E main lanes now open to traffic, motorists are reminded to use caution in the area.
Weather permitting, TxDOT will have overnight intermittent temporary lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. this week in order to safely install illumination poles.
From the Loop 288 bridge south, the three main lanes are open to traffic. TxDOT expects the inside left lane from the US 77 entrance ramp to remain closed until tomorrow as crews work to safely complete final guardrail work in the area.
December 16: Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is scheduled to open the three southbound main lanes on I-35E from Loop 288 to Mayhill tomorrow, Dec. 17. TXDOT expects the lanes to be open before the morning rush hour. With the opening of the three southbound main lanes, the I-35E/Loop 288/Brinker/Mayhill project is on schedule for a January 2020 completion.
Motorists should be aware that striping and clean-up may require future intermittent temporary lanes closures in the area, and are reminded to use caution when traveling in the area.
December 9: Following the opening of I-35E and Brinker Road underpass, City staff have worked closely with TxDOT to change the traffic signal to a standard Green-Yellow-Red pattern and installed the detection component which allows the signals to "see" the queues (or lack of a queue) in each direction and change the green times appropriately. With these modifications, staff has seen the northbound queues significantly decrease. The Traffic Department is actively installing radio communication so that the traffic signal can communicate with other signals as well as the traffic control center. Staff will continue to monitor and adjust the timings at this intersection as well as look for additional solutions which may include changes at adjacent signals or intersections
November 26: The underpass at I-35E and Brinker Road is now open! All lanes are now open, with flashing yellow lights for Frontage Road drivers and flashing red lights for Brinker Road drivers. Motorists are reminded to use caution in the area! The signal format will switch to red-green-yellow as early as Wednesday, Nov. 27, but may take longer.
November 7: Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will implement a new traffic pattern on the southbound Interstate 35E (I-35E) frontage road from Loop 288 to Mayhill Road beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 8. Traffic on the frontage road will be shifted onto the newly constructed lanes. Once traffic is shifted, the remainder of the frontage road will be constructed. Message boards will be placed to alert drivers of the shift. Motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes, if possible.
Weather permitting, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will have various north and southbound lane closures in place overnight from 9:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. on I-35E from Loop 288 to Mayhill Road beginning Sunday, November 3
. The temporary lane closures will allow crews to safely mill and pave, place large signs, and remove barriers. TxDOT expects the nightly closures to last several days and will provide updates as work progresses. Message boards will be placed to alert drivers of the temporary lane closures. Motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes, if possible. For updates on these road improvements and others, visit www.DriveTexas.org
October 8: A contractor for Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin construction for the installation of traffic signals at the I-35E and Brinker interchange. The installation will entail temporary span wire traffic signals and TxDOT will replace the temporary signals with a permanent signal at a later time. The signals are being installed to safely and efficiently move traffic on Brinker Road at the I-35E Frontage Road interchange. To allow crews safely complete the installation, lane closures will be in place during construction but traffic control plans will be developed to cause minimal impacts to traffic.
October 1: Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin reducing lanes on southbound Interstate 35E (I-35E) between the Loop 288 exit ramp and the Mayhill Road overpass at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 in order to complete the transition to the newly constructed mainlanes by 6 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3. Exit 462 to State School Road/Mayhill Road will reopen at this time. Crews will begin work on the median barrier and centerline paving after the traffic switch. Message boards will be placed to alert drivers of the closures. Motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes, if possible. For updates on these road improvements and others, visit www.DriveTexas.org.
September 15: Crews are treating the recently paved southbound main lanes/ Brinker Road, removing the paving on Loop 288, completing drainage along Loop 288/southbound Frontage Road, and paving the southbound main lanes. The opening of the Brinker interchange is dependent on the installation of traffic signal lights and may occur before December 2019.
Tonight, TxDOT crews will begin construction for the asphalt paving of the southbound main lanes.
To address safety concerns, TxDOT will install new signal lights at the Brinker interchange. To allow crews to safely complete the installations, the interchange completion date has been updated to December.
Weather permitting, TxDOT anticipates opening the Brinker interchange to traffic along with the new exit ramp by the end of September.
Beginning, 9 p.m. Friday, June 7, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will temporarily close all main lanes of the Loop 288 underpass at IH 35E. This closure will allow crews to safely complete the placement of bridge beams on the southbound side of the IH 35E bridge over Loop 288.
Weather and contractor scheduling may impact the plan, but TxDOT expects to reopen all lanes by 6 a.m. Saturday, June 8.
Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes. Please use caution and expect potential delays if your route includes this area.
Beginning, 9 p.m. Friday, March 29, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will temporarily close all main lanes of the Loop 288 underpass at Interstate 35E. - Weather permitting, Wednesday, March 20 at 10 p.m., IH35E southbound main lane traffic will switch onto the newly constructed northbound main lanes.
The IH35E southbound exit ramp to Mayhill/State School Road/FM 2499 will be closed after the traffic switch is completed. All traffic will be exiting at the Loop 288 exit southbound to access Mayhill/State School Road/FM 2499. A new IH35E southbound exit ramp is scheduled to be constructed and opened within a week after the closure. TxDOT will notify the City of Denton regarding the planned opening of the new ramp and updates will be shared.
Please use caution in construction areas, adhere to posted construction signage, and expect potential delays if your route includes these areas..
