The City of Denton Strategic Plan is an action-oriented road map that will help the City achieve its vision. It defines who we are, where we want to go, and how we plan to get there.
The foundation for strategic planning is the five long-term key focus areas:
- Organizational Excellence
- Public Infrastructure
- Economic Development
- Safe, Liveable, and Family-Friendly Community
- Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship
The vision of Denton in 2030 is one in which we are recognized as a vibrant community of choice, and it includes opinion survey and input from citizens. Denton is characterized by its two growing state universities; its friendly, small-town character, coupled with its big-city dynamism; its commitment to sustainability; and its culture of innovation, creativity, and authenticity. Our exceptional livability; the diversity of choices available to our people in employment, lifestyle, and neighborhood settings; and our North Texas values and culture define what Denton is and what we have to offer. We have realized our vision by respecting and building on our heritage, leveraging our assets, and making wise choices in guiding sound growth and investment.
Progress toward the goals are reported in a dashboard of performance measures in the City's Quarterly Financial Reports.
In April 2015, the City of Denton initiated surveys to gather opinion from citizens and the business community across a range of community issues and service areas. The survey results are a key tool to assess the progress the City makes in the implementation of the Strategic Plan.
The City of Denton conducted the 2018 Citizen Survey to assess the opinions of Denton Residents. The questions are designed to measure eight facets of community livability: Safety, Mobility, Natural Environment, Built Environment, Economy, Recreation and Wellness, Education and Enrichment, and Community Engagement. In total, 1,177 survey responses were gathered. 216 people completed the mail survey, giving a 7% margin of error, and another 961 surveys were received online. City staff will use the results from this survey to understand the perception of Denton residents, and to find areas that need improvement whether through increased outreach and education, or through operational enhancements.
