Project Background

The Hickory Creek Road Phase I (East) project consists of the extension of eastbound lanes from FM 2499 to Nautical Lane and an acceleration lane along southbound FM 2499. The road is currently two-lanes undivided (one lane in each direction). This project will involve construction of two new lanes, both of which will be eastbound. The existing eastbound lane will be converted to a second westbound lane. If necessary, there will be room to construct two additional inside lanes (one in each direction) in the future.

Project Updates

March 10: Construction activities are complete for the project. Project managers and inspectors completed final inspections this week and the project route is now open to traffic. Motorists may see crews completing clean in the following days and are reminded to use caution when crews are present. Final closeout for the project is currently underway and is expected to be complete by the end of April 2021.

December 11: Currently, crews are constructing the acceleration lane along the project route.

November 9: Construction continues to progress on this project. Motorists traveling in the area are reminded to use caution and adhere to all posted construction signage.

October 5: Message boards and traffic control signage is now in place to notify community members and motorists of the upcoming construction on Hickory Creek Road. Weather permitting, a phase of construction is scheduled to begin on Hickory Creek Road (Teasley Lane FM 2181 to Barrel Strap/FM 2499) Tuesday, October 6 through February 2021. During construction, lanes of Hickory Creek Road will be temporarily closed to traffic in phases. Access will be maintained for local residents and property owners throughout the temporary lane closures.

Here’s what to expect during the upcoming phase of construction on Hickory Creek Road
  • To allow crews to safely complete the improvements, Hickory Creek Road (Teasley Lane FM 2181 to Barrel Strap/FM 2499) will have a temporary lane and sidewalk closure in place. Signage is posted to alert those in the area of the temporary sidewalk access and traffic lane restrictions.
  • Crews will continue constructing an acceleration lane from Hickory Creek Road onto FM 2499, complete drainage improvements, and treat the subgrade for the new roadway lanes.
Following this phase of construction, crews will begin constructing the median. Similar traffic restrictions will be in place during this time as well. Detailed lane closure information will be shared to impacted residents and property owners in advance.
August 12: Weather permitting, the City contractor will begin construction the week of August 24th on Hickory Creek Road (Teasley Lane/FM 2181 to FM 2499).
