Microsurfacing, also called microseal, is a seal coat that uses a mixture of water, asphalt, small rocks, and chemicals to protect the pavement and also create a new driving surface.
This is a cost-effective method to renew the road surface and seal minor cracks and other irregularities. This preventive maintenance process protects the pavement from moisture penetration and oxidation and prevents the need for more expensive repairs in the future.
The Streets Department released the Microsurfacing Map
to include the scheduled streets. The schedule may be altered depending on weather, equipment, and unforeseen circumstances. There is also the possibility that work could take less time than expected and treatments may be completed earlier than anticipated.
Crews will place signage notifying residents and motorists of the upcoming work in their area. Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.
In order to achieve the best possible results, roads need to be dry and free of any standing water. On the day a street is scheduled to be surfaced, residents are asked to turn off any sprinklers. The microsurfacing can take longer to cure on days when the humidity is high. In the event a street has been treated on a day with high humidity, residents are allowed to drive on the new surface, but should refrain from stopping and turning their vehicle tires on the new surface to ensure no damage is done before the treatment has completely dried.
