Get A Library Card

Denton residents are eligible for a free library card, which provides access to the services and amenities below. Options are also available for nonresidents.

To get a library card, complete an application and present it in person at the circulation desk of any Denton Public Library with a current photo ID and proof of your current residence address.
  • Acceptable Proof of Current Address
    • Driver's license, temporary Texas Driver's license, or learner's permit
    • Texas Department of Public Safety ID
    • Personalized check, savings passbook, bank or credit union statement
    • Utility deposit receipt or utility bill
    • Current credit card bill
    • Voter's registration or notarized temporary voter's registration permit
    • Vehicle registration or liability insurance
    • Official rent receipt; rental agreement, contract, or lease
    • Mail postmarked within the last 30 days (if none of the above is available)
    Children (17 years of age and younger) can get cards but must be present at the time the card is issued. A parent or guardian must sign the application to take responsibility for the card.
  • Nonresidents
    If you live outside the Denton city limits, you can receive full library access for $50 per year or $25 for six months.

    Denton Public Library cards allow you to check out library materials, access electronics databases from the library and home, download or stream electronic media and e-books.

    You can pay at a library with cash, check, or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, or Discover). You may also call the Denton Public Library at (940) 349-8752 and ask to purchase a card, and the application will be mailed to you.
  • TexShare Cards
    Denton Public Library cardholders, who are in good standing, are eligible to apply for a TexShare card to borrow materials at other participating library systems. For information, contact the Denton Public Library at (940) 349-8752 or Library@cityofdenton.com.

  • Public Meeting Rooms
    Groups may reserve the meeting rooms in the Denton Public Library System facilities. All meetings must either be of a non-commercial nature, or be open to the public and no admission charges may be made.

    The library meeting rooms are primarily to be used for library sponsored programs, but can be reserved by the public when they're not in use.  Library meeting rooms may be used for meetings which are in harmony with the primary purposes of the library. The library reserves the right to cancel any scheduled activity at any time that conflicts with the primary purpose of the meeting rooms.

    To reserve a meeting room please fill out the Meeting Room Reservation form.  It is advisable to first contact the library to ensure room availability.

  • Homebound Service
    • Books and DVDs by mail to homebound library customers. This service is available to customers who qualify for or purchase a full-service library card. The customer’s nurse, physician, or social worker’s certification of need is necessary.
  • Inter-Library Loan
    Customers may request a book not owned by Denton Public Library through the Inter-Library Loan network.
  • IRS Tax Forms and Publications
    During tax season, the Library has copies of commonly-used tax forms and publications available to the public. Tax forms and publications can also be viewed and printed from the IRS website.
