After school childcare

  • After School Childcare, Grades K-5

    Denton Parks and Rec offers affordable after school care with extended hours. Each day of school, students are picked up from school and transported to one of our recreation centers for an array of activities and tutorial time. All drivers are City employees and have completed a training course in defensive driving.

    We offer a variety of activities including intramural leagues, arts and crafts, field trips, rock climbing, "Brainy Bowl," bounce houses, skating, and more. Students also have homework or tutorial time and snack time. 

    Online registration is now available for after school child care.

    Transportation is provided to the following recreation centers from the schools listed below. Students must be picked up by 6:30 p.m. from the corresponding center.

Licensed Preschools
  • North Lakes Part-Time Preschool
    Licensed by the Texas Dept. Family and Protective Services. Students will learn, laugh, and grow in a safe, fun, and caring environment. Instructors teach numbers, letters, colors, and shapes through music, arts and crafts, physical education, stories, and occasional field trips. Students must be potty trained and bring their own lunch, snacks, and drinks daily.
    Admission requires a deposit equal to one week's tuition. North Lakes Preschool is located in the North Lakes Annex at 1117 Riney Rd. For more information, call (940) 349-8287.

    Enrollment is limited to 12 students, ages 3 to 5.

    5 days, $380 per month | 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., Mon.-Fri.
    3 days, $260 per month | 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., Mon., Wed., Fri.
    2 days, $180 per month | 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., Tues., Thurs. 
  • Full-Time Licensed Preschools, ages 3-5
    Full-time Preschools
    Denton Parks and Rec Preschools are a safe environment that emphasizes hands-on learning, motor skill development, and creativity. We teach literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, and technology using the Mother Goose Time curriculum.

    Our students also experience and learn social responsibility fostered through a variety of games, center-based activities, and field trips.We are committed to high standards of care and are therefore licensed by the Texas Dept. Family and Protective Services. We are also a Child Care Management Service program of the Texas Workforce Commission dedicated to help eligible parents with the cost of child care. 

    Tuition is $460 per month, and admission requires one month tuition at the time of registration. Students must be potty trained and bring their own lunch, snacks, and drinks each day. Enrollment is limited to 12 students.

Kids' Day Off + Kids' Rock
  • Kids' Day Off | DISD In-Service and Holidays

    Whether it's a holiday, winter break, or teacher work day, we've got you covered! We jam-packed each day with physical activity, creativity, and play through a variety of fun, enriching activities and field trips. 

    Kids must be dropped of by 9 a.m. each day and need to pack drinks, snacks, and a lunch. The fee includes all activities, field trips, and transportation. Preregistration is required two days prior to each date to avoid cancellations due to a lack of minimum enrollment.

  • Teen Winter Break Adventure
    Teen's Day Off, ages 12-16
    With the purchase of a REC pass teens can be dropped off as early as 7 a.m. and picked up as late as closing. No direct supervision until scheduled time of activities. Registration deadline is three business days before outdoor activity. Always make plans to bring a sack lunch, unless otherwise stated.

  • Kids' Rock
    Oct. 5,  Nov. 2, Dec. 7, jan. 11, march 1, may 3
    7-10:30 p.m. at Denton Civic Center
    $10 per kid, grades 1-5

    Each month, kids enjoy a night out while parents enjoy the night off. Our experienced staff plan each month around a unique theme, then create play stations that include games and activities, mini-sports tournaments, unique inflatable fun, ping-pong, and video games on a large screen. 

    Of course, it's never a party without a DJ and dance contests! No need to buy dinner on the way because we sell concessions, as well as glow products. 

    To make check-in fast and not furious, register in advance.

    Unless otherwise noted, campers need to bring a lunch, snacks, and drinks each day. Field trips fees are included. The camp fee includes field trips, themed activities, arts, crafts, and swimming. Nonresidents add $5 per session/week.

    Each day begins at 7 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. at Denton Civic Center. For camp specific questions, call (940) 349-8731.

    Fees include all activities and field trips. There must be a minimum of 20 campers per week.

    The first session must be paid in full upon registration. The $20 deposit (applied to fee) is required for all reserved sessions. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferrable; credits or refunds are not provided for days missed. For sessions paid in full, a one-week notice must be given to receive credit toward another session. Teens need to bring a sack lunch, a snack, and drinks each day.
