  • Airport Advisory Board
    • Serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council on matters relative to airport safety, flight and ground operations, airport infrastructure improvements, long-term planning, and budgetary issues
    • Meets the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Denton Enterprise Airport Terminal Building, 5000 Airport Rd, as needed.

  • Animal Shelter Advisory Committee
    • Assists the City in complying with the provisions of the Animal Shelter Act and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding methods and procedures.
    • Meets the first Tuesday of the month every three months at 10:30 a.m. at the Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center, 3717 N. Elm St, as needed.

  • Charter Review Committee
    • The City Council created a Charter Review Committee to provide recommendations for potential changes to various provisions of the Denton City Charter. The Committee is composed of 21 citizens appointed by the Council.

    • Prepares, acquires, leases, and operates housing projects; investigates housing conditions; identifies revitalization areas, and provides accommodations for persons of low income.

    • Network of community stakeholders working together to promote effective and positive community relations and foster an environment of respect among diverse populations
    • Uncludes representatives from the City of Denton, the University of North Texas, Denton Police Department, NAACP, LULAC, Serve Denton, Denton Black Chamber of Commerce, North Central Texas College, Texas Woman’s University, Denton Independent School District, numerous Denton churches and religious organizations, law enforcement officials, and community and business leaders.

  • Downtown Denton Tax Increment Financing Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) Board
    • Makes recommendations to the City Council concerning the administration of the Zone; prepares and adopts a project plan and TIRZ financing plan for the Zone, submits the plans to the City Council for approval, and implements and monitors the project and financing plan.
  • Economic Development Partnership Board
    • Provides economic development policy guidance and makes recommendations to the City Council and Chamber of Commerce.
  • Health and Building Standards Commission
    • Hears and decides appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the building official, code official, or fire marshal relative to the requirements of the Code of Ordinances and all other applicable codes

    Airport: Reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council on the Airport Business Plan and the Airport Master Plan; infrastructure improvements, grant funding, property leases, long term financial planning, and budgetary.     Council Appointee Performance Review: Assists the City Council in performance review of the Council appointees and ensures that the appointees’ job descriptions are accurate and properly reflect current job duties; makes recommendations regarding employment agreements of Council appointee positions.     Citizen Engagement: Advises the City Council on the timely distribution of accurate and complete information to Denton citizens and devises methods of engaging Denton citizens in the various processes of City government.     Environment: Advises the City Council on environmental issues and resources. Members: Council Members Keely Briggs, Dalton Gregory, and Joey Hawkins

    Hotel Occupancy Tax: Monitors allocation and use of hotel occupancy tax funds, ensuring funds are used to directly enhance and promote tourism and the hotel and convention industry; makes recommendations to the City Council regarding hotel occupancy tax grants to eligible organizations. Members: Mayor Chris Watts, Council Members Joey Hawkins and Dalton Gregory

    Ad Hoc City Council Committees: The City Council occasionally creates ad hoc council committees to provide guidance and assistance with short term projects. These committees are dissolved upon the completion of their work. Current ad hoc committees are the Development Code Review Committee and the Community Event Center Committee.

    • Makes recommendations to the City Council in matters pertaining to traffic safety education and publicity; means of improving traffic conditions and safety; and bicycle and pedestrian safety.
