Aquatics

Play it cool year round at Denton NAT, Water Works Park, and Civic Center Pool. All three are family-friendly and offer a variety of activities to keep you afloat.

  • Denton Dolphins Swim Team
    Swim Team Sign-Up begins Aug. 29
    Swim team sign-up will begin Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 6 a.m. and will close on Friday, Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. It will be first-come, first-served in the order they are entered into CivicRec.

    The online payment system is down, therefore we will accept sign-ups using the CivicRec waitlist application. Parents can sign-up their child in person, by phone, or online. No payments will be made during the sign-up process.

    Space is limited. As a result, sign-ups will be accepted in the order they're received and staff will contact account holders individually for payment.

Denton Natatorium (NAT)

  • NAT Admission and Memberships

    The NAT is located at 2400 Long Rd., off Sherman Drive near Loop 288. It's a joint-use facility between Denton Independent School District (DISD) and Denton Parks and Rec. DISD uses the facility for swim meets, practices, and water polo matches.

    Punch Passes
    A punch pass is valid six months from the date of purchase and includes NAT admission and NAT water aerobics classes. One punch equals one visit; nonresidents add $5 per pass.

  • NAT Swim Lessons
    indoor Swim Lessons
    Swim lessons are offered year-round at the NAT and during the summer at the NAT and Civic Center Pool for ages six months and older. Lessons for all skill levels are provided at each class during each session. The registration deadline for swim lessons is at closing on the Friday before the first day of class.

    Levels and Descriptions
    Our classes are designed to allow students to learn at their own pace and master the skills at each level before attempting the next challenge. If you have questions about which class best fits you or your child's needs, call (940) 349-8800.

    Water Tots, ages 6 months to 3 years
    Parent and child aquatics builds swimming readiness through games and songs. Parents learn how to teach their children various skills to increase their child's confidence, coordination, and safety in the water. Class ratio is 10:1.

    Preschool, ages 3-4 
    This level is a fun introduction to water with an emphasis on comfort, safety, and basic water skills. Preschoolers learn floating, kicking, alternating arm action, bubble blowing, and safety rules. Class ratio is 5:1. 

    Level 1: Intro to Water, ages 5+ 
    This level builds from beginner skills through the introduction of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke while providing a greater sense of confidence and independence in the water. Class ratio is 6:1.

    Level 2: Fundamental Skills, ages 5+ 
    This level builds from Level 1, and teaches alternating arm action, rhythmic bobbing, front and back glides, and safety. Prerequisites include the ability to walk five yards in chest-deep water, retrieve an object underwater, and float supported or unsupported. Class ratio is 6:1.

    Level 3: Stroke Development, ages 6+ 
    This level teaches rotary breathing, dolphin kick, and safety, as well as freestyle and elementary backstroke. Prerequisites include the ability to float (front and back) unsupported, perform front and back glides unsupported, and demonstrate alternating arm action. Class ratio is 6:1.

    Level 4: Stroke Development, ages 6+ 
    This level increases endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front and back crawl) for greater distances. Participants add arms to the scissors kick for sidestroke and begin learning back crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly. Class ratio is 6:1.

  • NAT Aquatic Exercise

    Deep Challenge
    Monday and Wednesday, 6:05-7 p.m.

    This non-impact, vigorous deep-water aerobics class in the competition pool includes interval and circuit training, strength resistance training, and stretching. Deep-water flotation devices and resistance equipment provided.

    Shallow Water Workout
    Monday-Thursday, 7-7:55 p.m.​

    This low-impact, cross training class in the leisure pool combines kick boxing, water walking, yoga, pilates, and tai chi to improve cardio fitness, strength, and flexibility. Water shoes are recommended. 

    Senior Water Exercise, all ages

    Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9-9:55 a.m.

    Not limited to seniors, these classes are designed for those who need to work out 
    at a slightly slower pace compared to our other classes. The class is held in the competition pool during the colder months and in the water park lazy river during the summer months. Strength training is free to members and is a land class.

  • Master Swim Club, SCUBA, & Therapy
    Programs and Activities

    Island Divers Scuba Classes
    Scuba classes are offered through Island Divers and taught using the PADI System, aka the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. PADI courses are designed to make learning enjoyable and worthwhile with instructors who are trained and held to diving’s highest standards, backed up by a solid, proactive quality management system.     Denton Area Masters Swim Club
    The DASC Masters Swim Club is rapidly growing with swimmers of all abilities including novice swimmers looking to feel more comfortable in the water, triathletes wanting to have a faster swim time, and competitive swimmers preparing for the next swim meet. Our goal is to provide members an opportunity to improve their skills and achieve success while having a great time!     Party Rentals
    Birthday Party Rentals
    Available beginning May 27 for $110. This package includes one hour under the shaded party area, invitations, paper goods, cake, and drinks. Pizza is available for an additional fee. Limited to 15 guests; each additional guest pays daily admission price. To book, call (940) 349-8806.


    After Hours Private Rentals
    The pool is available for private rentals on weekdays beginning at 7:30 p.m. and on weekends beginning at 6:30 p.m. Lifeguards are provided. All rental fees must be paid in full at the time of booking. Rental fees vary starting at $225. To book your next party, call (940) 349-8802.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I purchase a membership to all three aquatic facilities?
    Yes, we offer an individual All Access Annual Pass at a discounted resident rate of $150 per person. The nonresident rate is $155. We also offer an additional discounted rate for the purchase of four or more at $120 per resident and $125 for nonresidents. Four or more passes must be purchased in the same transaction. Please see each facility page for other pass and punch card options.
  • When does Water Works Park and Civic Center Pool open?
    Water Work Park opens on the weekends beginning May 20, then opens daily beginning June 3. Civic Center Pool will be open for Memorial Day weekend, then daily beginning June 3. The NAT is open year round and closed during City holidays.
  • Is Denton NAT a public pool?
    Yes, the NAT is a public pool that operates under a joint-use facility agreement with Denton Independent School District, therefore making the NAT accessible to DISD for swim meets, practices, and water polo matches.
     
  • Can I bring my own blow up floats to the pools?
    No, the only flotation devices permitted are US Coast Guard approved life jackets and puddle jumpers.
